Overview

The Roopkund Trek is one of the most iconic high-altitude treks in Uttarakhand, India, renowned for its unique blend of natural beauty, adventure, and history. The trek is famous for Roopkund Lake, known for the mysterious human skeletons found at its shore, believed to belong to an ancient group of pilgrims who perished due to a sudden storm.

The trek offers breathtaking views of the Trishul and Nanda Ghunti peaks, as well as expansive alpine meadows like Ali Bugyal and Bedni Bugyal, which are among the most picturesque meadows in the Himalayas.

As you trek through forests, rocky terrains, and glacier zones, you'll experience an adventurous challenge, crossing high-altitude ridges and passes. Additionally, the route passes by Nanda Devi Temple, adding a spiritual and cultural touch to the journey.

Itinerary (Days)

Day 1

Travel from Dehradun/Rishikesh to Lohajung (290 km, 9-10 hours). Arrive in the evening, settle into accommodation, enjoy dinner, and rest

Day 2

Drive from Lohajung to Wan, then start the trek to Ghairoli Patal (6 km, 5-6 hours). The trek includes a gradual ascent and a steep climb to the campsite.

Day 3

After breakfast, trek from Ghairoli Patal to Aali Bugyal (5 km, 3-4 hours). Enjoy stunning views and serene meadows along the way

Day 4

Trek from Aali Bugyal to Pathar Nachauni (5 km, 4-5 hours). The trek takes you through scenic alpine landscapes and dense forests.

Day 5

Trek from Pathar Nachauni to Bhagwabhasa (4.5 km, 4-5 hours) via the Kalu Vinayak Temple, at the base of the Roopkund Summit.

Day 6

Early morning trek to Roopkund (12 km, 10-12 hours), visit the lake, and return to Pathar Nachauni for an overnight stay

Day 7

Trek from Pathar Nachauni to Wan via Bedni Bugyal (14 km, 8-9 hours), then drive back to Lohajung

Day 8

Depart from Lohajung in the morning and travel back to Dehradun/Rishikesh (290 km, 9-10 hours). End of the trek
