Overview

One of India’s coldest places, Spiti derives its popularity from its snow-covered mountains, heavy snowfall, trekking trails and monasteries. The name Spiti means “The middle land" i.e. the land between Tibet and India. Spiti is well known for its Buddhist culture and is home to several monasteries like the Key Monastery, Dhankar Monastery, Kungri Monastery and Tabo Monastery.

Eligibility Criteria

Age: Typically, trekkers should be between 18 and 50 years old. Some treks may allow older trekkers if they are in good physical health.

Physical Fitness: Trekkers should be in good physical condition. The trek involves high altitudes (up to 15,000 feet or more) and difficult terrain, so stamina and endurance are important. Regular exercise or a fitness regimen before the trek is recommended.

Experience: While the trek is suitable for beginners, it’s advisable to have some prior trekking experience or familiarity with high-altitude treks. Some routes may require moderate to advanced trekking skills.

Health: You should not have any serious medical conditions like heart issues, respiratory problems, or severe asthma. Trekkers should be comfortable with walking for long hours in remote areas.

Acclimatization: The trek takes place at high altitudes, so trekkers should allow time for acclimatization to avoid altitude sickness. A good trek plan includes time for rest and acclimatization.

Things You Need

  • For the Spiti Valley Trek, you need warm clothes, sturdy trekking shoes, and a sleeping bag.
  • Carry a small daypack, first-aid kit, and water bottle.
  •  Bring energy bars, a power bank, and a camera. Don't forget your ID, trekking permits, and sunscreen.

Spiti Valley Itinerary

Day 1: Pickup from Shimla and Drive to Kalpa

Pickup from Shimla. Enjoy the mountainous terrain through the mountain terrain. On the way enjoy the beauty of popular places like Kufri, Narkanda.

Dinner, Overnight stay at Kalpa.

Day 2: Kalpa to Tabo & Gue Monastery

Early morning after breakfast, proceed towards Tabo.

Enroute Tabo you’ll visit Nako village and the famous Nako Lake.

The Nako lake is usually frozen in winters and this makes it a spectacular sight

to see.

After visiting Nako, proceed further towards Tabo.

Dinner, Overnight stay at Tabo.

Day 3: Tabo – Dhankar – Pin Valley sightseeing

After Breakfast, Enjoy the beautiful morning in Tabo exploring the Tabo Monastery and Tabo Caves.

The Tabo Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Spiti Valley.

Leave Tabo and head towards Dhankar village & Visit the Dhankar monastery.

After Dhankar head towards Pin valley for sightseeing.

Dinner, Overnight stay at Mud Village.

Day 4: Kaza – Key Monastery – Kibber – Chicham

After breakfast, visit the famous Key monastery which is one of the biggest

monasteries in Spiti valley.

After key Monastery proceed towards Kibber which is most popular during winters (variety of Himalayan wildlife comes down from the higher mountains).

Just 5 kms ahead of Kibber is the iconic Chicham Bridge, which is one the highest bridges in Asia. Visit Kaza monastery & over night stay at Kaza.

Day 5: Hikkim – Komic – Langza sightseeing

Have your breakfast and proceed towards Hikkim village.

Hikkim is the village with the highest post office in the World. After Hikkim, you will visit Komic. Komic village holds the title of the village with

the highest motorable road in Asia. Thereafter, visit the Langza village!

Have your breakfast and proceed towards Hikkim village.

Hikkim is the village with the highest post office in the World.

The snowcapped mountains and the iconic Budha statue near Langza is a perfect place for some quality alone time.

Day 6: Kaza – Spillo/Kalpa

Morning after breakfast, today we will head towards Spillo/ Kalpa.

Try to do an early start so you can also visit the famous Giu Monastery.

Dinner, Overnight stay at Kaza.

Day 7: Departure, Drive from Kalpa to Shimla

Enjoy the last day of the trip while travelling back to Shimla.
