The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek takes us through stunning alpine forests, captivating snow-capped mountains, and lush green meadows, leading to the majestic lakes of Kashmir, often regarded as a secret jewel of the region that reinforces its reputation as heaven on earth. Each day offers a 360-degree panorama of wild mountains, grassy meadows, and turquoise alpine lakes, with over seven lakes and five distinct valleys to explore. Our adventure begins in Srinagar, from where we embark on a scenic three-hour drive to Sonamarg camp, our first destination. The following day, we trek around the beautiful Thajwas Glacier and Sonamarg town to reach the vast Nichnai meadow after a seven-hour hike. We then cross the Nichnai Pass (4080m) towards the medicinal plants valley, Vishansar Valley, and camp near the mesmerizing Vishansar Lake. An adventurous day follows as we tackle the highest pass, Gadsar Pass (4180m), enjoying views of the twin lakes, Vishansar and Krishansar, before descending into Gadsar Valley to reach the splendid Gadsar Lake. The next day, we trek through the seven small lakes of Satsar before arriving at Megandoab near Zajibal Pass. Our final trekking day involves crossing Zajibal Pass (4080m), rewarded with breathtaking views of Mount Haramukh (5300m) and the stunning alpine lakes of Gangabal and Nundkol. Finally, we make our way to Naranag village, passing through the meadows of Trunkhol and Bodpathri, where our drive back to Srinagar awaits, marking the end of our beautiful trekking journey.
