Bhrigu Lake - 4Days

Overview

Bhrigu Lake, located near Manali in Himachal Pradesh at an altitude of 14,000 feet, is a serene high-altitude lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks. The 2-3 day trek to the lake starts from Gulaba village, passing through alpine meadows, forests, and rocky terrain. Best visited between May and October, the trek offers stunning views and holds spiritual significance, being named after the sage Bhrigu. Due to its altitude, proper preparation and experienced guidance are recommended for trekkers. It’s a rewarding destination for nature lovers and adventurers.

The Bhrigu Lake Trek is often called the prettiest grassland trek in Himachal Pradesh, and for good reason. While many trekkers come for the mythological Bhrigu Lake, it’s truly the alpine meadows, or Himalayan grasslands, that make this trek unforgettable.

Unlike other Himalayan treks where you hike for days before reaching open pastures, on this Himachal grassland trek, you’re welcomed into endless green meadows right from the start. The trail begins with a steady climb through a lush oak and pine forest near Gulaba, and suddenly opens up to breathtaking alpine grasslands.

Rolling Meadows & Alpine Wildflowers

What makes the Bhrigu Lake grasslands so special is their sheer scale and beauty. These rolling grasslands stretch endlessly, changing colours with the seasons. In the monsoon, the meadows come alive with colourful wildflowers, transforming this into the best wildflower trek in Himachal.

You’ll camp at scenic spots like Jonker Thatch and Rola Kholi, where you’re surrounded by panoramic views of the Pir Panjal range. Iconic peaks like Hanuman Tibba and Friendship Peak rise majestically above the meadows.

A Snowy Touch & Mythological Lake

Climbing beyond Rola Kholi, the trail takes you over ridges and snow patches, especially in July. Finally, you reach the serene Bhrigu Lake, a high-altitude lake nestled quietly amidst the grasslands. According to local legends, Maharishi Bhrigu meditated here, giving the lake its spiritual significance. It’s believed that even at 14,000 ft, the lake never freezes completely because of its divine connection.

Perfect Monsoon Trek in Himachal Pradesh

Another thing that makes this the best grassland trek in Himachal is that it remains accessible during the monsoon. While most treks shut down due to heavy rain, the Bhrigu Lake Trek in monsoon is at its most vibrant — the meadows are lush green, the flowers are in full bloom, and the mountain air is crisp and fresh.
